Meet Ruairi

One of our intrepid services users . . .

Rauiri is one of our fantastic service users who loves to take part in many outdoor activities and hobbies. The video shows him body boarding, metal detecting, gardening and raising money for charity by walking 874 miles, the equivalent of walking from Land’s End to John o’ Groats.

We would like to thank Ruairi and his family for sharing with us. Also, we would like to give a special thank you to James (Ruairi’s carer for providing all the video snippets for us) and of course his whole care team. Thank you!

Ruairi was born with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) a rare, devastating terminal genetic condition. This has left Ruairi blind since the age of seven and means he needs one-to-one care support 24 hours a day.

His mother Deirdre says, ‘Ruairi’s life would have been totally different if newborn screening had been in place’.
