As we approach the festive season, we’re proud to announce that this year, we’ll be collecting for Sophie’s Legacy 2024 Christmas Appeal. This wonderful cause is close to our hearts, and we’re excited to rally together in memory of Sophie Fairall to make Christmas brighter for children in hospitals.
Who is Sophie?
In September 2020, Sophie had just turned nine when she was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. During her treatment she endured nine rounds of intense chemotherapy and seven weeks of radiotherapy. Sophie never made it into remission and in June 2021, after only eight weeks on a programme of maintenance chemotherapy, she relapsed. In September 2021, with no treatment options left, Sophie sadly passed away aged 10 just one year after her diagnosis. Sophie, though young, had ideas beyond her years and wanted the experience of children and their families in hospital to improve; this Christmas, we can help continue her mission. Sophie’s Legacy was created to honour her life and the changes she hoped to inspire.
What we’re collecting:
Sophie’s Legacy is collecting items to bring smiles to children and families spending Christmas in hospital. Here’s how you can help:
1. Advent Calendars
Help spread the magic of Christmas!
-Deadline: Tuesday 19th November
2. Christmas Gifts for Hospital Wards
Donate a special gift to make a child’s hospital stay a little brighter.
– Deadline: Gifts need to be with us by Monday 9th December.
3. Snack & Toiletries Boxes
We understand that this time of year can be costly, so we’re also collecting for snack and toiletries boxes, which can be supported at a lower cost. Every little bit helps!
Ideas for snack boxes:
– Pot noodles, mug shots, cereal bars, chocolate bars
– Mini snacks like iced gems, crisps, individual biscuits, popcorn
– Packets of sweets (e.g., 3 for £1), gluten-free options, and more
Important: All items must be non-perishable, in-date, and nut-free.
Ideas for toiletries boxes:
– Toothbrushes, toothpaste,
– Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner
– Deodorant, sanitary products, hand cream, etc.
Deadline: Please bring these items by Monday 9th December.
