Honouring Dr Geoffrey Sjogren

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of our very first service users, Dr Geoffrey Sjogren, who passed peacefully on 23rd January 2025, surrounded by his family.

Dr Sjogren was the Decontamination Lead for Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and the Chairman of the Institute of Decontamination Sciences. His research and pioneering work throughout his career led to many milestones in the industry.

In his roles, he led the way in establishing major frameworks for the sector such as policy and procedure around the decontamination of medical devices, as well as developing the first university-accredited practice-based foundation degree for decontamination sciences.

After being diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2016, Dr Sjogren inspired us with his dedication and courage in facing this cruel disease. He was a remarkable man who bravely challenged the world of MND. His passion for research continued long after his diagnosis and he planned to bring awareness to the debilitating disease for as long as possible.

HASCS would also like to acknowledge Mrs Jeanette Sjogren for her devotion and unparalleled support throughout this journey.

All the team at HASCS will always remember him with deep admiration. It was our honour to care for Dr Sjogren for over five years while he remained at home.

Our thoughts are with Jeanette, their children, and grandchildren at this very sad time.
