Meet Ira, Healthcare Assistant

Meet Ira, HASCS Healthcare Assistant. She has been with us since 2023 and has made a great impact in her time here.

“My job title is Health Care Assistant, and I have been working with HASCS for around two years. During this time, I’ve had the opportunity to support clients with compassion and professionalism, and I continue to value the experience and growth this role provides.

I was given the opportunity to work in Complex Care, and I’m truly grateful for it. I’ve always wanted to step out of my comfort zone and take on more meaningful challenges. This role allows me to be more proactive in supporting individuals with complex needs, and it’s incredibly rewarding to know that I can make a positive impact on their lives, even in my own small way.

I worked for the Department of Health in the Philippines for a solid six years. After that, I managed a few businesses and volunteered in care homes and orphanages whenever I got the chance. Those experiences have taught me so much, especially when it comes to working with different kinds of people; patients, children, and the elderly. I’ve faced a variety of challenges, and I’m proud to say I was part of the solutions.

These roles have taught me how to be resilient and have reminded me of the importance of staying grounded. Attending to others’ needs has always been humbling, and it continues to inspire me to give my best in everything I do.

What I enjoy most about my role is being able to connect with people. It gives me the chance to make a difference in someone’s life, no matter how simple or big that difference may be. I love knowing that something I did, whether small or significant, helped someone feel better or see life a little more positively. Seeing them smile and knowing I had a part in that means so much to me.

I’m truly thankful to HASCS for giving me this opportunity, not only to grow personally, but to be part of someone else’s journey, too. I’m grateful for the support in helping us sharpen our skills and for providing the training we need to care for our clients effectively and efficiently.

I’m also thankful that every day brings new opportunities to grow, not just for myself, but for the people we care for. I love knowing that, over the years, I’ll carry these memories and lessons with me. Everyone I’ve had the chance to care for will always be a part of me, just as I hope I’ve been a small part of their story as well.

I’ve always believed that every job is an opportunity to learn and grow, each one shaping you into a better version of yourself. Over the years, I’ve faced many challenges in different roles, but becoming a Healthcare Assistant has been a real turning point for me. It helped me realise a deeper purpose in life. At my core, I’ve always wanted to help people whenever I could, and now, I’m living that dream with a true sense of purpose.

Being able to support others and be a part of their lives has given me a deep sense of fulfillment. It’s more than just a job, it’s a chance to make a real difference. And for me, that’s something I’m truly proud of.

Always lead with your heart in everything you do. I truly believe that when your heart is in the right place, every action, no matter how big or small, will be in the best interest of the people you’re caring for. This career isn’t for the faint of heart or for anyone who isn’t willing to give their best every single day.

Patience, resilience, and compassion are essential. You’ll face challenges, but the impact you make is powerful and lasting. In the end, everything you give comes back to you, often in ways you’d never expect, sometimes a hundred times over. Caring for others can be tough, but it’s also one of the most meaningful and rewarding paths you can take.

I love reading and have a pretty solid collection of books. I’m also into movies and really enjoy talking to people, even strangers. I can chat with someone for hours without getting bored because I genuinely love hearing different stories. Whether it’s from a stranger, a friend, family, a movie, or a book, there’s always something to learn. Through these stories, I get to experience others’ pain, joy, disappointments, sadness, and grief, and understand the reasons behind their unwavering courage to overcome challenges and succeed. I get to feel what they’ve felt, their happiness, struggles, and victories. I think that’s what keeps me curious and inspired. I love exploring the world, not just through my own experiences, but through other people’s as well.”
