Charity Update: HASCS Hike Highlights

On Saturday, 14th June 2025, our community laced up their boots, packed their snacks, and came together in the heart of the New Forest for a truly special cause: the Brecon’s Forever Home Fund. With the sun peeking through the ancient canopy and wild ponies grazing nearby, the HASCS Hike brought together friends, families, and supporters for a memorable 15km journey along the Brockenhurst and Tall Trees Trail.

Why We Walked

For many of us, Brecon, affectionately known as Brecs, is more than just a name. His journey, marked by courage and resilience, has touched countless hearts. Born with dup15q syndrome, a rare chromosome disorder, Brecon faces complex medical and care needs. As he approaches adulthood, securing a safe, permanent home is not just a wish, but a necessity for his well-being and future independence.

Our hike wasn’t just about the miles, it was about making a difference. Every step, every conversation, and every donation helped raise awareness and vital funds for Brecon’s Forever Home Fund. If you’d like to read more about Brecon’s story or contribute, you can still visit the fundraiser page here.

The Day in the Forest

The morning buzzed with excitement as hikers gathered at Brockenhurst Train Station. After a quick briefing (and a few last-minute coffee runs!), we set off at 10am sharp. The 15km circular route led us through towering redwoods, sun-dappled glades, and open heathland where wild ponies watched our progress with gentle curiosity.

The trail, mostly flat and accessible, offered something for everyone. There were plenty of rest stops for snacks, chats, and photo opportunities, and yes, a few muddy boots!

A Well-Earned Finish

After a few hours of walking, laughter, and shared stories, our group arrived at The Snake Catcher pub for a well-deserved late lunch.
