From Hospitality to Healthcare- a progression story

Meet Mohamed, Healthcare Assistant here at HASCS. He was part of our January 2025 cohort, we caught up with him about his experience so far.

“Five months ago, I proudly began my journey with HASCS as a Healthcare Assistant. Though my time here is still growing, the roots of my passion for care were planted long before. For over nine years, I worked in the five-star hospitality industry in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. But my role extended far beyond welcoming guest, I was also a Certified First Aider, always the first to step in when someone needed help. That sense of responsibility for others’ wellbeing sparked something greater in me; the realisation that serving people in their most vulnerable moments is more than just a duty, it’s a blessing.

What do I bring to the role?

My transition into complex care was not a coincidence, it was a calling. I pursued studies in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Certified Nursing Assistance, and Caregiving. But, I didn’t stop at the certificates, I also immersed myself in on-the-job training, eager to learn the practical nuances of caregiving. Today, I don’t see my role as merely a job, it’s where my heart feels most at home.

I bring to the team a blend of rich experience and humble compassion. Years of working with diverse individuals in the Middle East taught me how to communicate effectively, stay calm under pressure, and offer emotional support with empathy and dignity. I’ve always believed that being down-to-earth, a good listener, and a team player are not just soft skills, they are the soul of caregiving.

What I enjoy most about my role?

The joy in the eyes of the people I care for: it’s the silent “thank you” in a gentle smile and it’s the feeling of going home each day knowing that I made someone’s day a little easier, a little lighter. There’s no greater reward than the blessings we receive for being there when someone needs us most.

One of my proudest professional achievements isn’t tied to a title or award, it’s about courage. I made a life-changing move to the UK after working in the Middle East for over 13 years. I left behind a life of comfort (free accommodation, food, yearly flights, tax-free salary) to embrace a new life of learning, challenge, and growth. Adapting to this change wasn’t easy, but as I always say, “If the sea has no waves, the journey won’t be adventurous.” And I’m here to ride those waves, stronger and wiser every day.

My advice?

To anyone beginning their career in care: don’t just do this for a monthly pay. If you treat this as just a job, it may feel hard. Above all, if you approach it with heart and compassion, you’ll fall in love with what you do—and even more, with the person you become. Care is not just a task, it’s a purpose.

What I appreciate most about HASCS is their commitment to quality. Whether you are a seasoned caregiver or just starting out, the company ensures everyone receives thorough training and continuous support. It’s a place where professional development is valued, and every colleague is treated like family.

And here’s a fun fact about me: while I now work in healthcare, I used to coordinate security, serve VIP guests, and even lead teams in luxury resorts. Life has taken me from lobbies to lives, from suites to support. It’s been a beautiful transformation and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
