Meet Newmann, Team Leader

The Team Leader role at HASCS is fundamental in ensuring seamless care provision and robust communication between our service user, their families, care staff and the clinical management team. Newmann is the Team Leader at one of our Dorset packages of care. We sat down to talk with him about his time with HASCS.

“I’m Newmann, and I serve as a Complex Care Nurse and Clinical Team Lead at HASCS. I’ve been with the company for about 13 months. During this time, I’ve really come to appreciate the supportive environment and the strong teamwork we have—both of which help me excel in my role and make a genuine difference in our clients’ lives.

My interest in complex care started when I realized how vital it is to provide personalized support for people with serious or long-term conditions. I initially worked in critical care and emergency departments back in Cameroon, then moved to the UK, where I studied Health Informatics. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw how much my hands-on nursing skills were needed. After taking my CBT and OSCE exams and registering with the NMC, I began working in various healthcare settings—including some complex care agencies. That’s when I discovered how rewarding it is to support patients at home, help them transition smoothly from hospital, and make them feel empowered in their own communities.

I qualified as a Nurse in Cameroon in 2016 and spent two years working in critical care and emergency services. In 2018, I moved to the UK and pursued a Master’s in Health Informatics at the University of Leeds, completing it in 2020. While I gained valuable data and analytical skills, I realized my greatest strength—and passion—was in clinical practice. After registering with the NMC in 2021, I worked in acute medical care, orthopaedic ICU, geriatric care, and elderly care. Eventually, I stepped into complex care settings, where I could combine my nursing background with my knowledge of health informatics. This blend proved extremely helpful in understanding and troubleshooting assistive technologies like ventilators, cough assist, and CPAP machines.

I truly enjoy being able to improve patients’ quality of life in their own homes or community settings. Every day, I work alongside diverse teams to create risk assessments and personalised care plans, ensuring our clients receive the best support possible. Witnessing patients regain their independence or successfully transition from long hospital stays into comfortable home settings is both inspiring and humbling. Equally important, I value the relationships I’ve built with my colleagues and management here at HASCS. Their support has been incredible, and they’ve really allowed me to grow as a caring, compassionate, and resilient nurse.

Outside of work, I’m an avid drone photographer. I love capturing unique aerial views that showcase both natural and urban landscapes. I also like being physically active by going to the gym, traveling and spending time with family.”

Q: What advice would you give to someone beginning their career in care?

“First, always lead with empathy and compassion. You’ll face challenging situations that require resilience and patience, and caring for people with complex needs can be as rewarding as it is demanding. Second, invest in your professional growth by finding a supportive workplace—like HASCS—that values your development and encourages continuous learning. Finally, never underestimate the power of teamwork. When you have strong communication and trust with your colleagues and management, it sets the foundation for outstanding care.”
